PILOT PROJECT: BRESCIA 2015
WHO DECIDES MY LIFE?
A question we ask ourselves and all women, because to change we can start with ourselves.
Awareness is the origin of change: the woman must first develop a knowledge of change within themselves in order to implement it.
OUR REQUEST
We aked for knitted or crocheted squares. Each participant contributed one or more squares in the size of 50×50 cm adding their own signature. The squares were stitched with a red thread, an expression of unity and relationship, to form 100×100 cm blankets which, placed side by side, covered “piazza Vittoria”. For the installation, 15.000 squares were estimated.
OUR SYMPATHIZERS
THE ASSOCIATIONS AND PEOPLE WHO SUPPORTED AND SHARED THE VIVAVITTORIA BRESCIA PROJECT
PREPARATION
For than three months, around 150 people were present at the main collection point in Brescia city everyday.
When the squares were delivered, each person left their details: this allowed constant communication with the participants and made it possible to count on their support.
Each blanket has been subsequently photographed and encoded.
Customized fabric labels have been printed with the Brand Viva Vittoria and a progressive number.
The volunteers stamped, numbered and then sewed the labels on the blankets.
THE INSTALLATION
Despite the heavy rain that lasted until late in the evening, the participation and support of hundreds of volunteers didn’t fail. On the night of 21-22 November 2015, the installation was placed on Piazza Vittoria after the urban operators intervened to dry it. The blankets were transported by a long human chain that started from the vivavittoria space in contrada cavalletto, on the corner of piazza Loggia. The collected blankets exceeded those needed to cover the square and they were all laid on three layers. The installation remained on display day and night from 22 to 25 November and each day was dedicated from time to time to women, to pupils, to institutions and to associations.
THE SALE AND THE DESTINATION OF THE PROCEEDS
The sale of individual blankets took place from Sunday 22 of November thanks to the help of numerous volunteers. Each 100×100 blanket was put on sale at the price of € 25. The proceeds of the sale, amounting to 77.000 euro, were donated to “La Dimora”, a home for mothers and children, with the specific aim of enabling the women guests to start a path of self-sufficiency in work, home and their own needs.
